Topsy's Story

Topsy had cerebellar hypoplasia. This picture of her "contemplating" is one of the few I was able to get that did not show her handicap. I had her 18 1/2 years. When she was three months old, three veterinarians told me not to "bother" with her, she would not live a year. It took a lot of special care, but was well worth all my effort. She had special ramps for windows and the bed. I had to liquify her food most of her life and she had to have Metamucile in every feeding which was approximately every four hours, even during the night. She had a heating pad on 24 hours a day during the last four years of her life. When she played, she usually layed on her side and batted toys I would toss to her. Her litter pan consisted of rags which I washed daily. That way if she fell, she would not get litter in her fur. Topsy's story, titled "The Gift of Love", was in the February, 1997 issue of Cat Fancy. Her's truly was a "gift of love". Her picture was also included in a commercial on TV several years ago.
