Otis's Story

I friend of mine who knows my affection for cats called me about a kitten she'd seen by her brother-in-law's house...little did she tell me! My then-boyfriend (now hubby) chased this poor creature through the woods. She tumbled and fell the whole time but was quick enough to out-run him! We finally caught her and took her home. She seemed to love us right away, but not nearly as much as we did her...I found out she belonged to a family that never let her indoors and fed her left-over pizza crusts. Out of duty and guilt I called them to say I had their kitten. Needless to say, they didn't care.

At first, we'd thought she'd been hit by a car or had a mangled foot. But, as time went by I began to think it was much more. We live in a small town and the vet didn't even mention her affliction. When asked, he couldn't give me an answer. He finally learned what the disease was, but did not know much about it. We'd unknowingly had her spayed while she was pregnant. I was devasted to learn the babies had been destroyed.

A couple years ago, a new vet came to the area from New York City. What a Godsend! She has helped us so much with our girl. She is amazed at how well Otis has done. At first, Otis wanted no extra help up or down steps or anything else of the kind. She bounced and played and chipped alot of teeth in the process. Now, older and wiser, she waits like a queen to be carried downstairs.

It has been 8 years, 3 children, 4 more cats and a dog since that day she tumbled through the woods...I feel so blessed to have her...
