Guestbook Ande's StoryMy boss had found a 5-week old kitten wandering alone in a nearby park. She put word out that she needed to find her a home. So my girlfriend and I took her. At first she walked a bit like Charlie Chaplin. The initial vet said she may have a nervous system disorder. But she was very playful and active. After a couple months, she would stumble and have little seizures. She started having lots of 'accidents', and we went through plenty of pet odor remover. Specialists at the U of Minn vet hospital diagnosed her with CH, and as she grew, her balance was way off. She was also losing her sight from an eye infection. But we were assured she was not in pain. she'd just need special attention. At that point, there wa no way we were going to part with her. She is now 3 1/2 years old, a tiny 3 pounds, and basically imobile, but we are on a good feeding and 'box' schedule, and 'accidents' are very rare. Her eyesight is pretty bad, but the seizures are gone. She loves to snuggle and get scratches, go for rides in the car, and look out the window. She also loves to see my dad ("grandpa") who is a great baby-sitter. He's extremely fond of Ande, and I'm confident would eat broken glass if it would somehow help Ande! Another (non-CH) kitten we'd adopted immediately took to Ande, and frequently bathes her. She's tucked in under my arm every night. It still amazes me how tough she is. She is very fragile, but extremely resilient. At one point, when we failed to see that she wasn't getting as much food as she needed (she was really tiny, anyway), she became severely dehydrated and her kidneys nearly failed. It looked extremely dim. But after a few IVs, medication, and a diet of AD and KD, she pulled through, much to the surprise of her vet. She's a handful, but worth every effort. Darren & Amy
