Misty's Story

My first experience with cerebellar kitties came from a phone call October 21, 1995. "Jan there's a woman who needs help trapping a feral mother and her kittens. She'll be taking them so all you need to do is catch them. One has something wrong with it and is in danger of being hurt". It was an easy trapping job, as all the tiny kittens were inside a potting shed. I instantly fell in love with little black & white kitten whirling and spinning in my carrier. She was dusted all over her long soft fur with gray. I dubbed her "Misty" and carted her and the others off to the vets. She was terrified as the vets examined her, and her eyes darted from side to side in a panic. She swayed nervously back and forth on the exam table as a few different vets looked her over. She was indeed brain damaged, but not the typical ch type of symptoms. Laughingly the Dr. said she had "Stevie Wonder Syndrome"! It was decided that being one of six kittens, she had likely been stuck in the birth canal, and had suffered oxygen loss. She also had a distinct groove running from the top of her head , right through her nose. Needless to say, I fell madly in love with this little girl and told the woman who had fed her, that I wanted her. She was relieved, one less to find a home for. Misty is no longer "misted" with gray, but plain black & white, but darling in that each of her legs are white but her little paw pads are all black like dominoes! She still has a touch of nystagmus {rapid side to side eye movement} but she has mastered stairs and is a sweetheart.
