Guestbook Mikey's StoryHi, my name is Karen, and I wanted to tell everyone about Mikey's story. Mikey was 2 months old when his mama finally realized that she couldn't care for him anymore. She carried him in her mouth up until then because he could not walk at all, he would just roll back and forth. He was brought to the rescue organization that I work for because everybody thought it would be best for him to be put to sleep. I fell in love with him immediately, especially his grass-green eyes, and the long white hairs coming out of his ears. Then I learned that he was to be put down. I touched bis back legs, and he kicked me, very weakly. I then asked permission to take him home to work with him. I was given one week to have Mikey show improvement, if he stayed the same, I was told Mikey would be meeting his Maker. He was such a good kitten right from the beginning, he was unable to use the litterbox on his own, but he would cry to let me know he had to go. He made tons of progress that first week, too! I used laser pointers, feathered wand toys, anything to get him moving. He loves to play, and I figured it would build up some of his muscle strength. I think he would have made more progress if his mama had let him do some things on his own. Mikey is 18 months old now, and he has good days and bad days. Some days he can make it all the way down the hall, other days he can't go for more than 2 steps at a time. He falls down and crashes into things a lot too, if you shaved him he would be a gigantic bruise. He is very happy, and loves to play, most of the time he doesn't seem to realize his disability at all, he just tries very hard to be like other cats. He does have a little bit if a temper sometimes, but I think ! he is entitled to that. I am very thankful that Mikey was not put to sleep when he was 2 months old. I recently rescued a blind kitten, and Mikey has become really good buddies with "Jessie". A few weeks ago, my house got broken into, and the intruders left my door wide open. All of my cats got outside. I got them all back the same night, but Mikey had Jessie cornered on my deck, he had her by the neck with his mouth, and his front paws were wrapped around her so she couldn't leave. It was as if he knew she is blind, and would probably be killed by a car or something if he let her go. I think Mikey is a very special boy, and I love him to pieces. He is also proof that all living things, no matter what the circumstances, deserve a chance. I think that this site is one of the best things that I have come across in a long time. Keep up the good work!!! -----Karen >^..^<
