Guestbook Bambi's StoryBambi is now my 2nd CH cat that I just adopted about 6 months ago. I had emailed a shelter and said was interested in adopting any kittens with this handicap .A week later I was notified that the runt of a litter had been affected and was at the time still nursing off the mother. Not even knowing anything about her or what she looked liked I said Id adopt her when she would be ready to go. She was released about mid April and was so small she didnt look like she'd survive. She was being treated with severe diarrhea. Well working with her for almost 5 months and observing her habits it was obvious something wasnt quite right with her. She was always hungry looking for food and would attack her food like she never ate before. Literally she was starving due to the fact whatever she would eat within the half-hour would come out the same. Having a medical background it was apparent that she wasnt absorbing her food properly. Trying all types of medications and diets, still nothing was working with her. My vet and I worked out all avenues and was just at wits end to throw in the towel, but I was determined to find out the cause and continue to be patient and get it taken care of. Finally after researching and looking for an answer to my problem we then found it: Malabsortion Syndrome. Not common but I guess with her medical background anything is possible. Today she is on a special diet and medicine for life to be given at mealtime. She is gaining weight and looks like a little roly-poly, Bambi has filled out beautifully, and her overall condition she looks like a whole different cat. Bambi is mildly effected with CH but does do better than her older sister Pebbles when it comes to walking. Now when it comes to running shes totally out of control and crashes up against the walls. She is very active and loves to play with the others. She also loves to find her place on the bed and loves to be cuddled. As far as her eating goes she has to be fed in another room to make sure she doesnt eat everyone elses food. She too uses the newspapers, guess they find it easier for them. Pebbles and her little friend Bambi are very content and live very fulfilled lives just being the way they are. I love them both dearly despite their imperfections. Yet all thats inside of them is the same as the others, love affection, and emotions that would make your heart feel loved.
