IzzyBella's Story

I have a cat that's special. She has Cerebellar Hypoplasia, or CH. CH is when a kitten is born with an underdeveloped cerebellum. C- Cerebellar Hypoplasia

In our situation, has a very mild case. She falls down sometimes when walking or running, and her head wobbles a bit. She never walks a straight line, and because of the closeness of the auditory nerves to the brain stem, she is also deaf, a common side effect of CH. Sometimes when she's eating she has to throw her food back in her throat. It's easier to feed her in a bowl than on a plate otherwise most of the food will end up on the floor. In more sever cases, kitty may have head tremors, and need to be taken to the box to do her business. Some cats with CH can't walk at all.

I feel lucky to have Izzy in my life, she came to me from a friend of mine Bette, that I met here online. She runs a CH Kitty Club. Here a lot of people that have cats with disabilities can get support and guidance through a network of caring cat owners.

I find that CH hasn't effected IzzyBella, She runs and plays with the rest of the Kitty Pride here, and has no problem with eating or using the box. She behaves on the most part like any normal kitten, playing with toys, and chasing Figaro around. The older cats go up high to avoid her, and Figaro will taunt her by hopping on a chair during their games of tag, then batting her on the head when she looses sight of him.

My cat came to me from Bette, who got her from a Veterinary hospital in Bishopsville Maryland. She was brought in to be euthanized. The Vet at the hospital called Bette because she is famous for saving CH cats, for finding them homes if she can, or taking them in herself. They thought she might be able to help, and I am so very grateful that they did. However, more often than not, these kittens are put to sleep (often at the recommendation of a Vet) because people don't understand that they can live normal healthy and happy lives, with a little extra care. Bette makes a life of educating people on CH. I hope that you will take the time to explore her pages thoroughly and consider that special kitties can lead normal lives.
Special thanks to Bette for helping me to write this article(((((((Bette))))))))) Love you Hun! if you're interested in learning more about Bette, and her husband Randy, visit their personal home page Welcome to Bette and Randy's Web Site
